Once, while visiting a friend in Sweden, I spotted a tree growing wild, bursting with small, dark berries. ‘Is that an Elderberry tree?’ I cried, excited.
One of the most prized home herbals is Elderberry Syrup, widely endorsed for use when cold and flu symptoms first appear. I added Echinacea and Thyme to the classic recipe to give a power-boost to the syrup’s effects.
I haven’t been able to grow Elder myself yet (or move to Sweden), but the dried berries make a convenient alternative.
